وقالت الوزارة إن الحادثة وقعت في مدينة نجع حمادي عندما كان المسيحيون يغادرون قداس العيد، حيث تم إطلاق النار عليهم من سيارة كانت تمر في المنطقة
وعلم موقع النور ان مجهولين يستقلون سيارة ماركة "فيات 131" لونها زيتى، وهو ما أدى إلى مصرع 6 أقباط وأمين شرطة مسلم وإصابة 9 آخرين بعضهم فى حالة حرجة
لكن بيان الوزارة يؤكد أن أحد عناصر الأمن، وهو أحد حراس الكنيسة، من بين القتلى بالإضافة إلى 5 (مصادر النور تؤكد انهم 6 اشخاص) من المدنيين المسيحيين ، مشيرة إلى أن الحادث أسفر كذلك عن إصابة سبعة (مصادر النور تتحدث عن 9 مصابين ) آخرين، إصابة بعضهم خطيرة

قوات الأمن باشرت عمليات البحث عن الجناة الذين كانوا برفقة أشخاص آخرين داخل السيارة
